MTH 30-20973-1, MTH RailKing O Scale ES44AC Imperial Diesel And Caboose Set, GE Evolution #2022

MTH 30-20973-1 GE Evolution ES44AC Imperial Diesel & Caboose Set With Proto-Sound 3.0 On January 1, 2015, stricter Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 rules went into effect for new production diesel locomotives, requiring a 70% reduction in nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions. Of the two U.S. makers of mainline freight engines, General Electric and EMD, only GE was ready with a new Tier 4 diesel. More than two years earlier, in August 2012, GE had outshopped No. 2015, the first demonstrator of its "Ecomagination" technology for meeting Tier 4 standards. What GE wanted to avoid was the "after-treatment" solution used since 2010 in heavy truck engines: carrying a tankfull of a chemical called urea that reacts with exhaust gas to neutralize nitrogen oxide. Instead GE developed an ingenious system that recirculates hot exhaust gas back into the engine; the net result is that switching to a new GE diesel is the equivalent of removing 12,000 cars from our nation's highways. The top-of-the-line RailKing Imperial model of this modern freight mover features a full range of locomotive sounds recorded from an actual ES44AC. Outfitted with two powerful flywheel-equipped motors, all-metal wheels and gears, and our revolutionary Proto-Speed Control, our ES44AC will haul long freights at any speed from a crawl to full throttle. Remotely activated front and rear Proto-Couplers allow you to pick up and drop off freight wherever you like. Additional Imperial features on the ES44AC include operating diesel exhaust smoke, flashing LED ditch lights, and operating LED Charging Lights. Set Includes: ES44 Diesel Locomotive Steel Caboose Locomotive Features: Intricately Detailed Durable ABS Body Die-Cast Truck Sides, Pilots and Fuel Tank Metal Chassis Metal Handrails and Horn (2) Handpainted Engineer Cab Figures Authentic Paint Scheme Metal Wheels, Axles and Gears (2) Remote Controlled Proto-Couplers Prototypical Rule 17 Lighting Directionally Controlled Constant voltage LED Headlights Lighted LED Cab Interior Light Illuminated LED Number Boards Operating LED Ditch Lights Operating LED Charging Lights (2) Precision Flywheel-Equipped Motors Operating ProtoSmoke Diesel Exhaust Onboard DCC Receiver Locomotive Speed Control In Scale MPH Increments Near Scale Sizing Operates On O-31 Curves Caboose Features: Intricately Detailed Durable ABS Body Stamped Metal Floors Metal Wheels and Axles Die-Cast 4-Wheel Trucks Fast-Angle Wheel Sets Needle-Point Axles Operating Metal Latch Couplers Caboose Interiors With Overhead Lighting Decorative Brake Wheels Separate Metal Handrails Near-Scale Proportions Operates On O-27 Curves This product was added to our catalog on April 5, 2023

MTH-30-71159, Box Car "Pittsburgh & Lake Erie" #35740 (New York Central) Road Name: Pittsburgh & Lake Erie (NYC) Road Number: 35740 Product Line: RailKing Scale: O Scale Features: Intricately Detailed Durable ABS Body Metal Wheels and Axles Die-Cast 4-Wheel Trucks Operating Die-Cast Metal Couplers Colorful, Attractive Paint Schemes Decorative Brake Wheels Fast-Angle Wheel Sets Needle-Point Axles Sliding Car Doors Unit Measures: 11 5/8" x 2 1/2" x 3 3/8" Operates On O-27 Curves Overview: The 40’ steel box car so familiar to model railroaders was a product of the 1930s. Wood box cars, which were built into the World War I era, and early steel cars were largely non-standardized, with details varying from railroad to railroad. The move toward standardization began with American Railway Association (ARA) designs of 1923 and 1932. It culminated in the 1937 AAR boxcar, which was adopted by railroads from coast to coast and built in the tens of thousands. (The AAR (American Association of Railroads) was and still is the successor to the ARA.) While the original paint schemes were usually drab variations on standard box car red, new schemes in the 1950s and later brought color back to the American freight train. Our models replicate many of the most fondly remembered paint schemes seen on these cars. High quality, traditionally sized RailKing Freight Cars provide detailed bodies and colorful paint schemes for the O Gauge railroader. MTH makes an enormous variety of RailKing Freight Cars, including many different car types and roadnames. No matter what era or part of the country you are modeling, RailKing is sure to have something for you. This item was added to our catalog March 2, 2024

Alco's designers added a second, shorter hood to a basic switcher to make room for a steam boiler for passenger train heat. The short hood also afforded the crew additional accident protection. Smoother-riding trucks made Alco's new design suitable for the higher road speeds that would be daunting in a typical switcher. In 1946, Alco cataloged the first six-axle version of its road switcher, the RSC-2. Designed for operation on the lighter rail found on branch lines and short lines, the engine used two more axles to spread out its weight. The trucks were a so-called "A1A" configuration: the two end axles had traction motors while the middle wheels were unpowered idlers. In 1951, the Chicago and North Western asked Alco to build a six-axle version of its RS-3, this time with all axles powered. The body and the 1600 hp Alco 244 prime mover were the same as used in the RS-3, but the additional traction motors gave the new model RSD-4 stronger low-speed performance. The longer trucks were both smooth-riding and more suitable for lighter rail. The design proved to be a winner, and a dozen railroads purchased the RSD-4 and its near-identical twin, the RSD-5, which sported an improved GE generator.
